Albuquerque's well-known Jones Motor Company building will soon see new activity inside now that restaurant chain M'tucci's Moderno Italian Restaurant announced plans to renovate and open up a location inside the now vacant building.
Even though there'll be a new tenant inside, a M'tucci's officials say you don't have to worry about any major changes to how the building looks.
"We are working with the Landmark Commission to make sure especially the exterior is going to look the way it looks today, it's just going to be cleaned up," Howie Kaibel, Minister of Culture and brand manager for M'tucci's, told KRQE. "What M'tucci's intends to do is really just show its deepest appreciation for the city by renovating one of its most iconic buildings, in one of the best neighborhoods in the city."
The building was last home to Kelly's Brew Pub, which shut its doors more than a year ago.
The Jones Motor Company building, which sits along the historic Route 66, was once a popular spot for cars driving that route 70 and 80 years ago, KRQE reported. Since the building is a historical landmark, the patio shape and the old gas pumps must be preserved.
M'tucci's hopes to open the new location by the beginning of next year.
