The Citizens Redistricting Committee shared some possible ideas about where Congressional district lines will be drawn during a recent meeting as they continue to move towards finalizing three possible maps to submit to New Mexico's legislature.

For several weeks the commission has taken recommendations from the public into consideration and used those ideas to form the options they presented at the latest meeting on Sept. 16, KRQE reported.

"We heard lots of things on the congressional districts, but there was a significant amount of the population about maintaining the core of existing districts," an unnamed presenter said during the Citizens Redistricting Committee meeting.

One option moved a large amount of New Mexico's east side to the Second Congressional District, which is currently represented by Rep. Yvette Here (R-Santa Fe), according to KRQE. The commission stated that while they are taking ideas from the public, the goal is to make the state as evenly split as possible.

The committee will continue to take public suggestions for a few more weeks but plan to submit three finalized possible maps to the legislature by the middle of October, the station reported. To leave feedback, New Mexico residents can go to portal.newmexico-mapping.org
