City of Rio Rancho employees who worked during the coronavirus pandemic will receive hazard pay.
Rio Rancho approved $1,000 in hazard pay for first responders and janitorial staff, while full-time workers qualify for $500 and part-time employees qualify for $200, according to KRQE.
"Our city staff, our first responders, everyone out there doing the job," Bob Tyler, deputy mayor for the City of Rio Rancho, told the station. "This is a drop in the bucket to be able to help them to get through some of the tougher times when they’re out there trying to help us manage the city."
Eligible employees worked from March through June of 2020. The bonuses are only available to current city workers and therefore are in line with state law, according to the KRQE article.
The measure passed in a 5-1 vote Sept. 9 at City Hall , according to the Albuquerque Journal, which reported that money from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act is going toward the hazard payments.
Additionally, the city is giving out vaccination incentives. Rio Rancho has already provided $93,000 in incentives, according to the Albuquerque Journal, and more is to come.
