New Mexico Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-Santa Fe) along with fellow representatives have written a letter saying they're concerned with the "inadequate criminal and security background checks" for the Afghan refugees coming into the U.S, according to a tweet

"Proud to be joined by @RepJimBanks and so many of my House colleagues demanding transparency and accountability in the vetting process for Afghan nationals. Read our letter to @POTUS to see how criminals and abusers have already made it to our shores," Herrell wrote.

The letter says that the U.S. does not have access to foreign databases of criminals, and even if it did, foreign nationals' records generally are not digitized. It questions how the U.S. knows what kind of criminals it may be allowing within its borders.

"We write to express our grave concern about the rushed and incomplete vetting of Afghan evacuees being brought to the United States," the letter from the representatives reads.

In total, 14 representatives signed the letter and included a list of questions they wish to be answered by the president, according to the Twitter post.
