A recent poll shows that Republicans tend to have more trust in state leaders, whereas Democrats are more likely to trust federal officials.
This survey was conducted by the Trafalgar Group, in partnership with Convention of States Action (COSA), and surveyed 1,119 likely General Election voters.
Poll results show that most Americans either trusted President Biden and congressional Democrats to be most effective at defending and promoting issues they find important, or they trust Republican governors and state legislatures. Of those surveyed, 34.8% were partial to federal Democrats and 33% were partial to Republican state leaders. Only 15% trusted congressional Republicans and even fewer, 9.4%, trusted state Democrat leaders.
As expected, the results widely differed by party affiliation: 63.5% of Democrats preferred Biden and congressional Democrats, and only 7.6% said state Republican leaders. Among Republicans, 63.1% trusted state leaders more, and only 8.6% said Biden and congressional Democrats. The third party and independent respondents had varied responses, but a plurality of 30.3% had the most faith in Republican governors and state legislators.
COSA is a grassroots political organization with over 5 million supporters across the United States and a primary focus on calling an Article V Convention of the States to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution. COSA only promotes amendments which would impose limitations on the size and scope of the federal government.
The Trafalgar Group is a public polling and market research firm. Its website states that Real Clear Politics called it the "most accurate pollster of the cycle among those firms that polled multiple Senate and governor races” this year.
