'It's really important to our mission:' University of New Mexico holds workshop for high school counselors

The University of New Mexico held a special workshop for high school counselors to help them provide students with the most accurate and up-to-date information for the transition to higher education, according to a press release

As part of the workshop, counselors attended presentations and learned about programs at the university, as well as received updates on the admissions process, COVID-19 requirements and scholarships.

"Supporting high school counselors and creating a pipeline from high schools to The University of New Mexico is really important to our mission and what we’re trying to achieve at Enrollment Management," Matt Hulett, director of UNM Admissions and Recruiting, said in the release. "I'm very happy we’re able to provide opportunities like these to our community."

The opportunity was well-received.

"So much has changed since the pandemic started," Monique Baca from Moriarty High School explained in the release. "I wanted to make sure we were up-to-date, so I could communicate that with the seniors."

The presentation topics included dual credit and programs like CAPS, recreational services and the College of Music.

"All the changes that have been made to the scholarships and the admissions requirements have been welcome news, like the test optional aspect," said Kevin O' Sullivan from Albuquerque’s Volcano Vista High School.
