Voters will be able to meet local radio host Eddy Aragon, who joined the Albuquerque mayoral race, at an event by the Republican Party of New Mexico.

The social is Sept. 9, will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free to attend.

"Albuquerque is in need of new leadership! This is an opportunity to talk to Aragon about important issues not only facing Albuquerque but also the state," the Republican Party of New Mexico wrote in a tweet

Aragon is a host and owner of 1600 AM, according to the Albuquerque Journal

"I decided to have a positive impact on this world, and I wanted to begin in my home state of New Mexico," Aragon says on his campaign website. "The 9/11 terrorist attacks and my career in business had converted me from Democrat to conservative. To improve our community, I wanted to bring a true conservative radio station to the airwaves."

He will have to step down from his radio show during the race, according to Inside Radio.

According to KOB4 News, a petition has been filed in District Court to remove Aragon as a candidate because of his living situation, claiming that, since he has recently been living at his station instead of a residential area, he doesn't meet the residency requirement.
