Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber has declared a state of emergency in response to an increase of COVID-19 cases, according to a report by KOB 4.
City employees, like state employees, must now show proof of vaccination; those who do not must undergo weekly testing or face possible disciplinary action.
"We thought we had COVID really under control and everybody did a great job of getting us to where we were. And then the delta variant is the new enemy and unfortunately it puts us back into the deep end of the pool,” Webber told KOB during an interview.
Additionally, Webber told KOB 4 that the county is averaging approximately 20 new COVID-19 cases each day, with hospitalizations also increasing.
Currently, 74% of Santa Fe citizens have received all recommended vaccinations, according to the KOB 4 report.
