A recently published Gallup opinion poll shows that President Joe Biden's approval rating has dropped to a new low of 50%.
The organization surveyed roughly 1,000 U.S. adults between July 6 and July 21, and the data shows that Biden's approval rating has dropped 6 percentage points from numbers reported in June, according to The Hill. The lower approval ratings come at a time of national concern about the increasing rate of inflation, an increase in coronavirus cases and a slowing vaccination rate among the U.S. population.
"When Americans start feeling the pain at home, opinions change. New Mexicans are no strangers to the consequences of their vote for @JoeBiden and @GovMLG," Brett Kokinadis, 2nd chair of the Republican Party Santa Fe, wrote in a June 24 Twitter post.
Poll data shows that answers are extremely polarized with 12% of Republicans approving of Biden's performance, while Democrats polled at 90% and independents are at 48%. Those numbers represent the lowest rating yet Democrats and independents but a 1 percentage point increase among Republicans.
President Biden's second-quarter average rating was 53%, which is higher than former President Trump's whose approval rating was at 38.8%, but lower than former President Obama’s second quarter average job approval rating of 62%.
Biden's approval rating was at its highest at 57% in late January/early February and in April.
