Registration has reopened for some popular summer youth programs, as additional spots have been added to the programs, as part of Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller's Youth Connect initiative.

According to a press release from the mayor's office, all community centers, with the exclusion of five, had made more positions available and re-opened registration for multiple summer youth programs.

"We kept youth programming running throughout the pandemic to keep kids safe and engaged. Now with restrictions lifted, connecting more families with these opportunities is another bright spot in our reopening," Keller wrote in a tweet.

Re-opening of registrations began July 12 and include 1,000 new swimming lesson spots, plus availability at community centers, adventure camp and free entry to the Albuquerque Museum Resumes, the release said.

The Adventure Camp at Balloon Fiesta Park has also re-opened registration. Adventure Camp is a week-long program that offers archery, frisbee golf, biking, pickleball, model rocketry and much more to participating campers. Registration is $150 per child, according to the release.

Until Oct. 31, the Open Space Visitors Center near the Rio Grande Bosque will have extended hours Thursday-Sunday, to be open from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Families can join local naturalists for a guided walk along the Bosque for free on the first Sunday of each month, but pre-registration is required.
