Mike Canfield announces retirement from Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

Mike Canfield, President and CEO of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (IPCC), will retire in early 2025. Canfield, who has been with the organization since 2011, is a member of the Pueblo of Laguna and serves on the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce board.

Sandoval County opens new public safety building

The Sandoval County Public Safety Building officially opened on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was the special guest speaker at the event. Commission Chair David J. Heil and Sheriff Jesse James Casaus also addressed the crowd. Wayne Johnson, County Manager, welcomed attendees to the new building located at 7255 Oersted Rd., Bernalillo, N.M.


UNM set to break ground on Center for Collaborative Arts & Technology

The University of New Mexico (UNM) will break ground on the Center for Collaborative Arts & Technology (CCAT) on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The new facility, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), will be a 60,000 square-foot hub for innovation and creativity at the UNM College of Fine Arts.

UNM study finds jail-based methadone treatments lower recidivism rates

Research from the University of New Mexico suggests that providing methadone and other substance use disorder treatments in jails can reduce recidivism rates. Brady Horn, a Professor in the Department of Economics, and Paul Guerin, the Director of the Center for Applied Research and Analysis (CARA) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR), examined a program at Bernalillo County's Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) that offers methadone treatment to inmates.


Las Cruces Fire Department appoints Sean Heck as deputy chief

Sean Heck, a 22-year veteran of the Las Cruces Fire Department, has been named Deputy Chief of Administration. He succeeds Deputy Chief Justin Allen, who retired in August 2024.


Federal funds allocated for Mesa Verde Park renovation

Mesa Verde Park is set for a significant renovation with funding from the federal government. The U.S. Department of the Interior announced today that it is awarding the City $1.3 million for the project. The grant comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund’s Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP). The City will match these funds, investing a total of $2.6 million into the park's upgrade.
