Western New Mexico University achieved a notable win against St. Edward's University, overcoming a 15-point second-half deficit to secure an 87-84 victory on Saturday at the Recreation and Athletics Center in Austin, Texas. The Mustangs improved their record to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

The game began with Western New Mexico narrowing an early gap through three-pointers by Keylon Dorsey. Carson Kelly contributed consistent shooting, including a key three-pointer, while Isaiah Broady added points in the paint to keep the team competitive. Quincy Adams' free throws late in the first half gave the Mustangs a slight lead, which they maintained going into halftime at 44-42.

In the second half, St. Edward's capitalized on turnovers to build a lead, but Western New Mexico responded with successful free throws and fast-break points from Dorsey and Adams. Andre Harris and Cortaviaus Seales provided important layups as Tanner Poeschl helped sustain offensive momentum with rebounds. Nolan Brown’s late three-pointer tied the game before Seales’ free throws put the Mustangs ahead.

Key defensive plays and timely scoring allowed Western New Mexico to hold off St. Edward’s in the final minutes. Despite a late three-pointer from Jamison Kay of St. Edward’s, Western New Mexico maintained composure for the win.

Head Coach Mark Bunker commented on the performance: "It definitely was a great win for our program. Anytime that you can come away with a win against a ranked team that was undefeated it definitely feels great." He continued: "The bench stepped up a ton tonight, especially on the defensive end. We knew we could find some success on the offensive end, but we just weren't getting stops. From top to bottom, we got tougher and communication was key to finding a way to win. Very proud of all the guys' effort."

Cortaviaus Seales led Western New Mexico with 16 points and five assists. Andre Harris recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds along with five assists. Carson Kelly scored 13 points and made two steals while Dorsey added 10 points with two three-pointers.

With this result, Western New Mexico stands at one win and one loss in conference play after narrowly losing to #9 St. Mary's earlier in the season.

The Mustangs will next travel to Nampa, Idaho, to face Northwest Nazarene University on Monday, December 15 at 7 p.m. Mountain Time.
