The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team secured a 68-64 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday evening at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales, New Mexico.
The game saw six tied scores and ten lead changes before the Greyhounds (3-3) pulled ahead in the final quarter. After shooting only 18.75% from the field in the third quarter, Eastern New Mexico improved their offense in the fourth, making 5-of-11 field goals and hitting 11-of-15 free throws to seal the victory. Southwestern Oklahoma State fell to a 2-3 record.
Junior guard Julieta Ceja led Eastern New Mexico with 20 points, going 3-for-4 from three-point range and collecting four rebounds. "Ceja's efficient shooting from distance helped ENMU finish the game at 29.2% from three-point range," according to team statistics.
Nataya Lockett contributed a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds, along with three steals and converting nine of her ten free throw attempts. "Lockett's performance on the boards was crucial as the Greyhounds battled throughout the contest."
Tatiana Platonova added another strong performance with 13 points, four rebounds, and five assists for Eastern New Mexico. "Platonova's playmaking ability helped the Greyhounds generate 20 fast-break points and 24 points in the paint."
Eastern New Mexico's defense forced turnovers that resulted in 21 points for the team, while their bench added another 14 points during the game.
Overall, Eastern New Mexico shot 36.5% from the field (19-of-52) and made 74.2% of their free throws (23-of-31). Their efforts in the fourth quarter were key to securing their third win of the season.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to play again at home against Cameron University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., continuing conference play at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
