Balloon Fiesta survey shows high visitor satisfaction and intent to return

Out-of-state visitors attending the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta have given positive feedback about their experience in New Mexico, according to a survey conducted by the New Mexico Tourism Department. The annual survey, which takes place during the event, aims to gather insights into visitor perceptions and activities.

The survey revealed that 91 percent of travelers felt safe during their visit to New Mexico. Less than 2 percent disagreed with this sentiment, while around 7 percent were neutral. Additionally, approximately 94 percent of visitors expressed satisfaction with the service at local restaurants, hotels, and attractions. Only a small fraction, less than 2 percent, reported dissatisfaction.

Acting Secretary Lancing Adams commented on the findings: "Sometimes the best way to glean insights about safety and quality of service during the visitor experience is to just ask travelers themselves." He added that they are pleased with the positive experiences reported by attendees.

The likelihood of visitors returning for another vacation in New Mexico was high, with about 94 percent indicating they would likely return. Only 1 percent said they were unlikely to come back.

The survey also highlighted that 84 percent of New Mexicans would recommend visiting the state to others. Among attendees at the Balloon Fiesta, over 8 percent of New Mexicans were first-time participants, while nearly 60 percent of out-of-state visitors attended for the first time.

In terms of economic impact, an estimated total attendance of 851,994 guests was recorded for the event in 2025. Although specific figures for this year are not available yet, it was noted that in 2024 the event generated an economic impact of $216 million.
