Western New Mexico University's men's basketball team achieved a 78-70 win over Colorado Mesa University at Whalen Gymnasium in Durango, Colorado. The Mustangs improved their season record to 3-1 with the victory.
Colorado Mesa started strong, taking an early 5-0 lead. Western New Mexico responded with a three-pointer from Cortaviaus Seales and tied the game at 12-12 after a dunk by Keylon Dorsey. Both teams traded leads throughout the first half, with the Mustangs briefly ahead after Isaiah Broady's dunk and free throw made it 23-20. Andre Harris contributed two free throws to push the Mustangs' lead to 32-29 later in the half, but Colorado Mesa finished the period ahead, 41-40.
In the second half, Dorsey hit a three-pointer assisted by Carson Kelly to put Western New Mexico back in front. Seales continued scoring consistently, including a fastbreak layup following his own steal that increased the lead to 61–54. Kelly added another three-pointer and Broady scored on a fastbreak dunk as Western New Mexico maintained control. Defensive efforts, including multiple steals, helped limit Colorado Mesa's opportunities.
Seales led all scorers with 27 points on 9 of 16 shooting and converted seven of eight free throws while adding five assists. Kelly scored 18 points and made four three-pointers. Dorsey contributed ten points and was perfect from the free throw line. Nolan Brown recorded three steals and two assists.
The Mustangs will next play against Colorado Christian University on Wednesday, November 26 in Lakewood, Colorado at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.
