From the facilities to the community, the New Mexico Ice Wolves emphasize a distinctive environment for junior hockey. The organization highlights its low player turnover rate, which it says is among the lowest in any junior league, and credits this stability as part of what makes playing in New Mexico unique.
The team recognizes contributions from both past and present members. Former NA3HL coach Darren Banks was mentioned as a recent opponent, while alumni Petr Philippov was acknowledged for his role in growing hockey in the state. According to the team, "it’s easy to see the Ice Wolves are a family and it’s a lifetime membership."
Under first-year head coach Kyle MacKenzie, the Ice Wolves have started their season strongly. The team says its culture is focused on development and aims to deliver both a high-quality player experience and engaging fan experience.
During the NAHL Showcase, players visited Herbie’s on the Park in Saint Paul—a venue named after Herb Brooks—where they met figures from hockey history and participated in team-building activities such as listening to an a cappella performance by one of their rookies.
As the season began, New Mexico secured a notable win against division rival Lone Star, described as one of their toughest early challenges.
The organization invites fans to watch more about its culture and early season on YouTube.
