New Mexico students from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the Art of Conservation New Mexico Fish Art Contest. This initiative is sponsored by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish in collaboration with Wildlife Forever. The contest aims to highlight the importance of fish within New Mexico's ecosystems, where they support biodiversity and contribute to the health of aquatic environments.
The contest offers young artists a chance to win prizes across four grade categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Special awards include the Invader Crusader Award for artwork featuring both invasive and native species, the Mighty Minnow Award for kindergarten participants, and several others focusing on native trout and species at risk. Winners will also be chosen based on public votes at the New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Show in Albuquerque from February 13-15.
Entries must be submitted online by January 31, 2026, with judging scheduled for March. More details about eligible species can be found on the department's website. For inquiries, Assistant Chief of Education Curt Coffman can be contacted via email.
