Aerospace Corporation has appointed Steve Shinn as its new chief financial officer, effective October 20, 2025. Shinn most recently served as acting chief financial officer at NASA during the presidential transition and has over 25 years of experience in financial operations and enterprise transformation within both government and industry sectors.
At NASA, Shinn managed financial activities and performance oversight for the agency's programs and operations, overseeing an annual portfolio exceeding $25 billion. His background includes expertise in strategic planning, performance measurement, and organizational management.
President and CEO Tanya Pemberton commented on the appointment: “Steve is the ideal leader as we emphasize operational excellence that maximizes our value and empowers our team to effectively deliver on our critical mission. He brings strategic vision, experience in day-to-day financial operations, proven transformation leadership at large-scale organizations, and a passion for space.”
Chief Operating Officer Kathleen Naeher also welcomed Shinn’s arrival: “Over the past several years, Aerospace has undertaken a significant modernization of our business functions and financial tools. I look forward to working with Steve as we continue this journey and integrate enterprise services across the company to support the mission.”
During his 15-year tenure at NASA, Shinn held roles such as deputy chief financial officer, deputy chief financial officer for Center Operations, and chief financial officer at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Before joining NASA, he led business and project control functions at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory’s Space Department. He began his career at Computer Sciences Corporation.
Shinn’s work has received recognition including the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award and multiple NASA leadership honors for advancing technical and business practices throughout the agency.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from The College of New Jersey and a master’s degree in technical management from Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering.
