Sam Bregman addresses teen murder case and hosts school safety town hall

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account in early November 2025, focusing on the legal proceedings involving a 13-year-old charged with murder and community efforts to improve school safety.

On November 4, Bregman announced that "13-Year-Old Charged in Connection with Teen’s Murder During Gun Deal Albuquerque Police have charged a 13-year-old in connection with the homicide of 17-year-old Angelo Tafoya. Investigators believe that in September, the teens met Tafoya at an apartment complex in the 500 block" (posted November 4, 2025). The tweet referenced an incident from September, where authorities allege the fatal shooting occurred during a gun-related encounter.

The following day, Bregman invited community members to discuss public safety issues. On November 5, he wrote: "Hello APS Families! You’re invited to join Albuquerque District Attorney Sam Bregman for a School Safety Town Hall - This evening- November 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the West Mesa Library. This event will focus on how families, schools, and the community can work together to support" (posted November 5, 2025). The town hall was organized as part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between families, schools, and local officials regarding student safety.

Later that same day, Bregman provided another update on the legal case involving the accused minor. He reported: "13-Year-Old Detained in Deadly Robbery; Judge Orders Teen to Remain in Custody A judge ruled today that a 13-year-old charged with murder will remain in custody as his case moves through the judicial process. The middle school student is charged in connection with the September" (posted November 5, 2025).

Juvenile crime and violence have been persistent concerns for local law enforcement and community leaders. According to recent data from state agencies and national studies, incidents involving firearms among minors have increased over recent years. Community engagement initiatives such as town halls are frequently used by district attorneys like Bregman to address these challenges by encouraging dialogue among parents, educators, and law enforcement officials.
