Eastern New Mexico University's volleyball team was defeated by Adams State University in a non-conference match on Tuesday night at Plachy Hall in Alamosa, Colorado. The Greyhounds lost in straight sets with scores of 23-25, 21-25, and 16-25.
Sophia Valdez led the Greyhounds offensively with seven kills and two digs. She had a .042 hitting percentage over 24 attack attempts as the team struggled to generate consistent offense against Adams State.
Amya Speller contributed both offensively and defensively for Eastern New Mexico, recording five blocks—one solo and four assisted—and achieving a .214 hitting percentage. Speller also tallied seven kills on 14 attempts.
On defense, Imahni Brown collected nine digs and added two assists while playing all three sets. Addison Bartlett added six kills, while Isabella Hidalgo and Aaliyah Butler each recorded three kills for ENMU.
The Greyhounds finished the match with 29 kills and a .051 hitting percentage. In comparison, Adams State registered 34 kills with a .263 efficiency rate. Eastern New Mexico posted 28 assists, five service aces, and 13 total blocks; Adams State ended with 39 assists, seven aces, and eight blocks.
The contest was closely contested early on. There were 16 tie scores and 19 lead changes across the three sets. The first set alone saw eight ties before Adams State secured it at 25-23. The second set included seven ties before ending at 25-21 for the Grizzlies. The final set had one tie as Adams State completed the sweep with a score of 25-16.
Following this loss, Eastern New Mexico's overall record stands at 4-21 with a Lone Star Conference record of 1-12. Adams State improved to an overall record of 14-10 and is now 8-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Eastern New Mexico will return home to Portales for their last two matches of the regular season: they host St. Mary's on Thursday, November 7 at 6 p.m., followed by Senior Day against St. Edward's on Friday, November 8 at 2 p.m.
