Sophomore forward Faith Zint scored an early penalty kick for Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) women's soccer, but the team was defeated 1-7 by Texas A&M International in their season finale on Tuesday at Dustdevil Field in Laredo, Texas.
Zint converted a penalty in the fifth minute, putting ENMU ahead 1-0. She led the team's offensive effort with three shots, two of which were on target. The lead was short-lived as Texas A&M International equalized through Laura Cardenas' penalty kick in the 16th minute and then took control of the match. Fredes Manrique Sanchez and Tove Thornholm added goals for the Dustdevils before halftime.
ENMU's sophomore goalkeeper Rosie Willmott Joyce made five saves under heavy pressure as Texas A&M International outshot ENMU 27-4 during the match. Samantha Wood recorded Eastern's only other shot.
In the second half, Valeria Olivas Maldonado scored for Texas A&M International in the 66th minute, followed by Caroline Jensen adding another goal in the 70th minute. The Dustdevils maintained possession throughout most of the game and earned six corner kicks compared to one for ENMU.
The loss ends Eastern New Mexico's season with a record of zero wins and seventeen losses overall, including fourteen conference defeats.
