Singapore’s National Quantum Office (NQO) and Quantinuum have announced a new strategic partnership aimed at advancing quantum computing in Singapore. The collaboration is part of Singapore’s National Quantum Strategy and will be implemented through the National Quantum Computing Hub (NQCH). Both organizations intend to work together on quantum hardware, software, and talent development initiatives.

A major component of the partnership involves bringing Quantinuum’s Helios quantum computer to Singapore in 2026. This installation will make Singapore the first country outside the United States to host the Helios system. In addition, researchers in Singapore will have immediate cloud access to Helios for research and capability building.

Quantinuum also plans to establish a Research & Development and Operations Centre in Singapore. The centre will focus on collaboration with local researchers and industry partners to develop middleware and applications that connect classical and quantum systems. The goal is to turn quantum technologies into commercially relevant solutions while strengthening long-term R&D capabilities.

The partnership includes programs designed to support industry growth and talent development, such as internships, workshops, and conferences. Initial efforts under this agreement will focus on areas like computational biology, financial modeling, advanced materials science, chemistry, and combinatorial optimization.

Ling Keok Tong, Executive Director of the National Quantum Office, said: “This partnership marks an important step in building Singapore as a leading quantum computing hub. Through the National Quantum Computing Hub, we are advancing quantum-enabled applications in sectors such as healthcare, materials science, and finance. Working with Quantinuum will accelerate this progress, deepen local capabilities, and position Singapore as a leading quantum computing hub in the region, driving real-world outcomes.”

Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, President & CEO of Quantinuum stated: “Singapore has demonstrated remarkable foresight in recognizing the transformative power of quantum computing in this next phase of technological progress. Quantinuum is proud to work in partnership with Singapore to advance the frontiers of quantum computing, providing direct access to the most powerful computational capabilities ever developed. Together, we’re strengthening a hub that will accelerate the commercialization of quantum computing, enabling industries to rapidly turn breakthrough technology into real-world solutions.”

Mrs. Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information commented: “Singapore continues to invest significantly in quantum to strengthen our digital growth and security. We do this by collaborating with global partners on frontier tech, developing, and attracting world-class talents, and uplifting our local workforce and enterprises. Together, we hope to shape a more prosperous and safe future for Singapore and the world – where technology serves the public good.”

This agreement builds upon earlier collaborations between Quantinuum and entities within Singapore’s research ecosystem—such as A*STAR Bioinformatics Institute (A*STAR BII) and Duke-NUS Medical School—which were established in 2024.

Quantinuum describes itself as a leader in quantum computing with over 630 employees worldwide across several countries including the US, UK, Germany, and Japan (www.quantinuum.com).

The NQO was established under A*STAR with support from Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF) in April 2022 as part of efforts to build a vibrant research innovation ecosystem for quantum technologies (https://nqo.sg). The NQCH is jointly managed by institutions including Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (A*STAR IHPC), and National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) (https://nqch.sg).
