Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has recently used her social media platform to address issues related to children's education, food insecurity, and federal nutrition assistance programs. In a series of posts between November 2 and November 4, 2025, she emphasized the importance of outdoor education and criticized federal actions affecting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
On November 2, Governor Lujan Grisham highlighted the educational benefits of outdoor activities for children. She stated, "Getting kids outside isn't just recess—it's essential education. Fresh air and open spaces help children build stronger bodies, sharper minds, and better emotional regulation. Time outdoors reduces stress, improves focus, and sparks natural curiosity. Whether it's observing".
The following day, she addressed concerns over SNAP benefits during an ongoing crisis. On November 3 she wrote, "While the president holds Americans’ #SNAP benefits hostage, New Mexico’s restaurants and food pantries are keeping our neighbors fed. Thank you to all who are pitching in to help ensure that New Mexicans don’t go hungry during this crisis."
On November 4, Governor Lujan Grisham joined other state leaders in urging federal action on nutrition aid: "No senior should have to ration groceries. No veteran should worry about meals. No child should go to bed hungry. I joined 20 governors in calling on Trump to release #SNAP contingency funds. We need the White House and Republicans in Congress to do what’s right."
The governor's comments come amid a period when access to SNAP benefits has been at risk due to political disputes at the federal level involving both the executive branch and Congress.
