The New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire on November 11, 2025. The event will start at 11 a.m. and is open to the public free of charge.
The memorial was established by Victor and Jeanne Westphall from Albuquerque in memory of their son, Marine 1st Lt. David Westphall. David was killed at age 28 during an ambush by North Vietnamese forces on May 22, 1968. The monument was dedicated three years later in his honor.
Initially managed by the all-volunteer David Westphall Foundation, the memorial was donated to the State Parks Division in 2005. In 2017, management responsibilities were transferred to the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services.
The schedule for the ceremony will be announced soon.
