The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) is actively working to restore water service for customers affected by the disruption at Melody Ranch Water Company LLC (MRWC). The NMPRC's Legal and Utility divisions are collaborating with MRWC, state and local agencies, and community residents to establish a long-term solution.
In June, complaints emerged that MRWC was not supplying water to its community between Edgewood and Moriarty. The NMPRC informed MRWC of its legal obligation to provide reliable service and conducted a site visit, confirming infrastructure failure. Efforts are ongoing to secure immediate and long-term solutions.
Key actions include weekly status conferences on Mondays, livestreamed on the Commission’s YouTube channel, providing updates on restoration efforts. Written reports follow each conference on Thursdays, detailing progress and future outlooks. Mobile water tankers have been dispatched intermittently, supplemented by bottled water from Torrance County Emergency Management.
Cholla Khoury, Chief of Staff for the NMPRC, said: "We recognize how disruptive and distressing this situation is. We are working every day to find a permanent solution for the community."
Last month, MRWC expressed intent to transfer all assets at no cost to EMWT Regional Water Association, pending Commission approval. Public comments can be submitted during open meetings or through specified contact details.
