Albuquerque Reads, a tutoring initiative aimed at improving literacy among kindergarten and first-grade students, is calling for volunteers for the upcoming school year. The program, which operates from mid-September through May, requires a commitment of 90 minutes per week. Volunteers can also opt to form teams with friends or colleagues to tutor once a month.
The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Albuquerque Public Schools, is spearheading this effort to enhance children's reading skills. "Join Albuquerque Public Schools, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and volunteers like you to make a lasting difference in a child’s life!" the organization said.
Tutors are needed at Atrisco and Whittier elementary schools. Those interested in volunteering or sponsoring can find more information on the program's website or by contacting Kayla Nelson via email.
The Chamber expressed gratitude to sponsors who have supported the acquisition of books for monthly distributions as part of the Albuquerque Reads program.
