Eastern New Mexico volleyball hosts New Mexico Highlands aiming to end losing streak

The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team is set to host New Mexico Highlands University on Monday evening at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena. The match, which is non-conference play, comes as the Greyhounds aim to end a five-match losing streak.

Sophia Valdez has been leading Eastern New Mexico with 186 kills and 53 digs this season. She averages 3.38 kills per set and holds a .197 hitting percentage. Addison Bartlett has added 115 kills and ranks second on the team with 140 digs. Amya Speller leads in blocks with 49.0 and has contributed 79 kills, while Violeta Flores directs the offense with 267 assists. Imahni Brown anchors the defense with 241 digs, and McKenzie Hart has recorded both kills and blocks for the Greyhounds.

In their most recent outing against West Texas A&M on October 11, ENMU lost in straight sets (12-25, 14-25, 11-25). The Greyhounds managed only 25 kills compared to West Texas A&M’s 35 and were out-blocked by a margin of six.

Eastern New Mexico currently holds a record of 3-13 overall and is 1-5 in conference play. Earlier in the season, they secured wins over Sul Ross State and Western New Mexico.

For New Mexico Highlands University, Aziza Morris leads with 156 kills across 59 sets played. Becca Wiersema tops the defensive stats with a team-high of 234 digs, while Jaylee Gonzales has been strong at the net with both kills and blocks.

The Cowgirls have won three consecutive matches recently, including victories over Fort Lewis College, Regis, and Chadron State. Their offensive output closely matches that of their opponents this season.

Defensively, Highlands has tallied more than nine hundred digs so far but trails opponents in blocking numbers.

Eastern New Mexico leads the all-time series against New Mexico Highlands at 52-21-1.

Looking ahead, ENMU will travel to Alpine, Texas for another conference matchup against Sul Ross State on October 16 after previously defeating them earlier this season.
