The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) in Albuquerque will mark its 25th anniversary with a free public celebration on October 25. The event will feature a range of activities, including art workshops, guided tours, and live music performances.

“Since opening in 2000, the Center has embraced its identity as a cultural home for the diverse identities that shape our community,” said NHCC Executive Director Zack Quintero. “As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we look back on 25 years of growth and hard work, and we also look ahead to a bright future for the Center and our community.”

The NHCC opened its doors in October 2000 after over ten years of planning by the Hispanic Cultural Foundation and co-founder Ed Lujan. The inaugural event was attended by several dignitaries, including Prince Felipe de Borbón of Spain (now King Felipe VI) and Vice President Al Gore.

The anniversary celebration begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25. Attendees can join guided tours of the Torreón and view the large-scale fresco "Mundos de Mestizaje." Performances in the Fountain Courtyard will include Azteca dancers, the National Institute of Flamenco, and other local artists.

Throughout the day, visitors can participate in activities such as dance performances, crown-making workshops, and face-painting themed around Muertos y Marigolds. The festivities will conclude with an evening performance by Nosotros, a well-known Latin band from the Southwest United States.

Additional free guided tours of the Visual Art Museum Collections are scheduled for Tuesday, October 28; Thursday, October 30; and Saturday, November 1. These tours offer a behind-the-scenes look at the museum’s permanent collection of more than 4,500 artworks.

The NHCC operates as part of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and hosts events year-round through its various arts programs and partnerships. Its campus includes a plaza, art museum, historic building, library, and genealogy center.

More information about the anniversary events and registration details are available at nhccnm.org/events.
