Shuter Library of Angel Fire seeks director to oversee operations and community programs

Shuter Library of Angel Fire, located in Angel Fire, New Mexico, is seeking to hire a new Director. The application deadline for this position is December 7, 2025.

The library is looking for a candidate with either a background in library services or business management to oversee a small public library that serves patrons from Cimarron through Angel Fire to Mora. The Director will be responsible for supervising staff, managing operations and the budget, setting library policies, overseeing the collection, and leading programming efforts. The position also includes responsibility for key community interactions and executive administrative duties.

The Director is expected to play an active role in children's and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities. The job description notes that the Director should "expand and enhance our services to meet the evolving needs of a diverse community." Responsibilities are divided among leadership and administration, community engagement, budget management, facilities oversight, and program development.

The breakdown of duties includes 20% management of daily operations, 20% programming for children and youth (including summer programs and makerspace activities), 10% cost control and fiscal oversight, 15% community and patron interaction, 5% strategic planning, 5% interaction with the Executive Committee and Board, 5% collaboration with other rural libraries and the New Mexico State Librarian, 10% fundraising and grant writing (in conjunction with the Board and volunteers), and 10% related duties.

The Director will report to the Board President, work closely with the Executive Committee, and have general supervision over two part-time staff members as well as volunteers. The position allows for up to 20% remote work if teleconferencing is available.

Required skills include administrative experience, leadership ability, customer service skills, and some knowledge of library principles. Desired skills include familiarity with library operations, current trends in library services, technology experience, community engagement abilities, STEAM programming experience, and bookkeeping skills. A background check is required for employment.
