New Mexico United defender Kalen Ryden has announced that he will retire after the 2025 season, ending a professional soccer career that has spanned more than a decade.
Ryden joined New Mexico United in 2020 and has since played in 147 matches for the club, accumulating 12,376 minutes on the field. He has scored four goals and provided four assists during his time with United. Ryden holds the club records for most clearances (489) and blocks (94), continuing to be an important part of the team’s defense this season.
Over his career, Ryden has made 285 appearances, scored 16 goals, and registered 10 assists. He was part of the Real Monarchs SLC team that won the USL Championship title in 2019. His previous teams include Columbus Crew SC, Jacksonville Armada, Oklahoma City Energy, and Austin Aztex.
Originally from Norman, Oklahoma, Ryden is recognized by fans in New Mexico for his leadership and commitment to the club.
“Kalen Ryden has been the soul of this team — a captain, a competitor, and a true friend to everyone in our organization,” said Peter Trevisani, CEO and Majority Owner of New Mexico United. “What he’s brought to New Mexico United can’t be measured in minutes or wins. It lives in the spirit of unity he inspired and the standard he set for everyone who follows.”
Ryden’s final season is ongoing as United aims for the postseason. With three home games left in the regular season, supporters will have limited opportunities to see him play before he retires.
