Logan L. White, a former standout pitcher at Western New Mexico University (WNMU), has built a notable career in professional baseball leadership. Born in Humansville, Missouri, White moved to New Mexico where he attended Elida High School and later Portales High School, earning several All-State and MVP honors for his pitching performances.
White began his collegiate baseball journey at Ranger Junior College and Murray State Junior College before transferring to WNMU in 1983. During his time with the Mustangs, he quickly made an impact, earning All-Conference and All-District honors and leading the team to a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship. In 1984, he set school and conference records for wins and strikeouts, achievements that still stand today. He became the first WNMU player drafted into Major League Baseball when the Seattle Mariners selected him in the 23rd round of the 1984 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
After his playing career, White transitioned into scouting and executive roles within Major League Baseball organizations. He started as an associate scout for the Mariners while coaching in Portales schools, then worked as an area scout for the Baltimore Orioles and later as West Coast supervisor for both the San Diego Padres and Orioles. In 2002, White joined the Los Angeles Dodgers organization where he rose to become Director of Amateur Scouting, Assistant GM for Amateur & International Scouting, and Vice President of Amateur Scouting by 2012. During this period, he was involved in signing or drafting over 100 players who reached the major leagues.
Since October 2014, White has served as Senior Advisor / Director of Player Personnel for the San Diego Padres. His responsibilities include evaluating talent at all levels—major league, minor league, amateur, and international—and contributing to roster construction and draft strategy. Under his tenure with the Padres, young talents such as Cal Quantrell, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Joey Lucchesi have joined the organization.
White's contributions have been recognized through multiple honors: induction into the WNMU Hall of Fame in 1996 and into the Scouts Hall of Fame in 2019 with a "Legends in Scouting" award. He is also active outside baseball by supporting cancer-related causes and mentoring youth in California and Arizona.
"Logan White's story is one of relentless drive, deep baseball acumen, and service to both his alma mater and to the game at the highest levels. For WNMU, he is more than an alum — he is a bridge between the university and the major leagues, a proof point that talent developed here can reach the top echelons of professional sport."
