New Mexico prepares for universal child care rollout with emphasis on workforce

New Mexico is preparing to implement universal child care, with a focus on strengthening the workforce and improving quality. The initiative aims to make child care accessible for all families in the state.

Officials from the New Mexico Early Childhood Education & Care Department (ECECD) have emphasized the importance of investing in early childhood educators as part of this plan. "We know that access to high-quality child care is critical for families and for our economy," said an ECECD spokesperson. "By supporting our workforce, we are ensuring that children receive the best possible start."

The program will also include measures to raise standards across providers and ensure consistent quality throughout New Mexico’s child care system.

The move comes as part of broader efforts by state leaders to address gaps in early education and support working parents.
