Sophia Valdez of Eastern New Mexico University has been named the Lone Star Conference (LSC) offensive player of the week for her performance at the LSC Challenge in Silver City, New Mexico. The announcement was made by the conference on Tuesday.

Valdez recorded a total of 31 kills during the weekend event. She matched her career-high with 23 kills in Eastern New Mexico's 3-1 victory over Western New Mexico on Saturday. This achievement ties her for seventh place in program history for most kills in a four-set match.

A native of Roswell, New Mexico, Valdez averaged 4.43 kills per set across two matches and currently ranks fourth in the conference with an average of 3.60 kills per set and a total of 126 kills this season.

She is the first Eastern New Mexico volleyball player to receive this honor since Mikaela Garvin and Rae Sapiga were recognized by the conference on November 2, 2021.

Eastern New Mexico will start its conference schedule with away games against Texas A&M International on Friday, September 26, and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, September 27.

"Valdez registered 31 total kills over the weekend, which included matching a career-high of 23 kills in the ENMU 3-1 win over Western New Mexico on Saturday. Valdez's 23 kills puts the Greyhound tied for seventh for the most kills in a four-set match in program history," according to the Lone Star Conference announcement.
