The New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium at the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo has completed an upgrade to its projection system. The improvements feature high-performance computers equipped with advanced graphics cards and Digistar software, which works alongside a 4K laser projection system. This combination is designed to produce brighter and larger images for visitors.

COSM’s Field Service Engineer, Alex Richter, who was present for the installation, said, “Digistar enables visitors not just to see, but explore and interact with the universe in ways only dreamed of until now.”

In addition to enhanced visuals, the planetarium now includes a new sound system intended to provide a distortion-free viewing experience. The upgraded technology allows guests to view detailed representations of cosmic phenomena such as the Milky Way and three-dimensional nebulae.

The New Mexico Museum of Space History is part of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and is recognized as a Smithsonian Affiliate. The museum highlights New Mexico’s contributions to the U.S. space program and houses both the International Space Hall of Fame and the planetarium.
