The Bosque Farms Public Library reported an increase in participation during its Summer Reading Program this year. According to Library Director Sabrina Edwards, expanded marketing efforts may have contributed to the higher turnout. The six-week program, following the "Color Our World" theme, was open to patrons of all ages, from pre-K children to adults. This year, the introduction of an Adult Reading Log was particularly well received, with participants of all ages submitting logs for a chance to win prizes.
During one event, Ken Hays from Hays Honey Farm gave a presentation in the park behind the library building. He discussed bees, beekeeping practices, and current challenges facing bee populations. Both children and adults attended and participated in the session.
After the outdoor event, activities continued inside the library’s Children’s Room, which was decorated for the summer theme. Attendees could read to therapy dogs, submit their reading logs, check out books, and participate in a Guessing Jar contest. The library remains active throughout the year due to its proximity to an elementary school across the street but experiences increased activity during summer months.
The New Mexico State Library provides support for Summer Reading Programs at Bosque Farms Public Library as well as other public libraries across New Mexico. The state agency emphasizes these programs' value in fostering community connections and introducing new users to library resources.
"We congratulate Bosque Farms on a successful summer!" stated representatives from the New Mexico State Library.
