Aaron Johnson named senior associate athletic director for external affairs at ENMU

Aaron Johnson has been appointed as the senior associate athletic director for external affairs at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) Athletics. His role will focus on engaging the university with the local community and managing relationships with corporate sponsors.

"Aaron (Johnson) will be a great asset to our department as he looks to engage our University with the community," said Kevin Fite, director of athletics at ENMU. "He will be the direct point of contact with all ENMU Athletics corporate sponsors and has a fantastic background in this area while working with major collegiate and professional sport organizations."

Johnson most recently worked as senior director of revenue for Matchroom Sports in Las Vegas, where he led an increase in revenue during the organization’s first three live events and promoted digital advertisements during boxing matches. He also held roles with AFFL’s Las Vegas Lucky Sevens, focusing on corporate sponsorships and ticket sales, and briefly worked for the Vegas Vipers XFL team, surpassing a $2 million revenue goal within his first month.

His experience includes serving as director of sales and ticket operations for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys from 2021 to 2023, where he helped transition the team into a AAA franchise under the Houston Astros. Johnson also spent six years as senior regional sales manager for Tailgate Guys, expanding outreach to Fortune 250 clients across Texas and Oklahoma.

Earlier in his career, Johnson was director of sales and ticket operations for MountainStar Sports Group’s El Paso Chihuahuas, contributing to sold-out games and $8 million in revenue. In collegiate athletics, he served as general manager for IMG Learfield at University of Texas San Antonio and directed ticket sales at University of Arizona.

Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in health promotion from Montana State – Northern and a master’s degree from Montana State – Billings.
