Deb Haaland, current gubernatorial candidate in New Mexico and former U.S. Secretary of the Interior, has recently used her social media platform to address economic and healthcare concerns facing residents across the state.
On August 8, 2025, Haaland highlighted rising living costs in New Mexico, stating: "Across the state, New Mexicans are seeing higher grocery prices with wages that don't keep up. As governor, I'm committed to making life more affordable so our communities can not only survive, but thrive."
Later that day, she addressed federal policy impacts on state services. In a post dated August 8, 2025, Haaland wrote: "Trump's Big Bad Bill harms hardworking New Mexicans. Trump and his Republican allies aim to add roadblocks for those seeking services like Medicaid or SNAP, and could force several rural hospitals to close. As governor, I will fight fiercely for healthcare funding and services."
On August 9, 2025, Haaland described her visit to Moriarty: "I had a magnificent time meeting with people in Moriarty! They have a robust community rooted in agriculture and filled with entreprenurial spirit. I'm running for governor so every rural community has access to prosperity."
Haaland’s campaign messaging comes as New Mexico continues to face challenges related to cost of living increases and healthcare access—issues often cited by residents in both urban and rural areas.
