The University of New Mexico (UNM) College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences has announced a job opening for the position of Library Information Specialist 2 – Access Services Librarian. The application deadline for best consideration is August 11, 2025.
Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience. Higher degrees from accredited institutions can be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
According to the announcement, “The College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CULLS) seeks a Library Information Specialist 2 to provide excellent customer, circulation and reference services, and facility oversight to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Incumbents will bring library and/or public service provision experience and skills, a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, and interest in learning new skills.”
The role is based at Zimmerman Library with working hours from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am Sunday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters. Occasional weekend shifts may be required. During intersession and summer terms, the schedule generally shifts to Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Access Services staff assist UNM students, faculty, staff, and community users by providing support in areas such as circulation, resource sharing including Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery, technology lending, course reserves, information help, research assistance, and collection maintenance across several library buildings on campus.
Zimmerman Library serves as the state’s largest library building at UNM’s main campus. It houses over one million volumes along with specialized centers such as the Center for Southwest Research; it also includes departments like Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences; facilities like Adobe Creative Commons; programs including the Indigenous Nations Library Program; as well as multiple spaces designed for both individual study and group collaboration.
As stated in the release: “Incumbents will perform moderately complex and specialized tasks in a fast-paced public service setting within University Libraries. They will monitor daily operations and participate in implementing and communicating operating policies and procedures. They may coordinate, prioritize and oversee the work of other staff and/or student employees. Regular work assignments may involve service and process improvement. Contributing to the creation of an inclusive environment for all library users is an ongoing responsibility.”
