The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners has approved a resolution to accept $25.9 million in capital outlay funds from the New Mexico State Legislature. The decision, made unanimously last month, will direct state-allocated money toward projects that include affordable housing, behavioral health services, infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, and youth and community initiatives throughout the county.

“This resolution brings to life an ambitious set of projects made possible through months of collaboration and advocacy,” said County Commission Chair Eric Olivas. “We are deeply grateful to the Legislature, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and our county leadership for making these transformative investments possible.”

Of the total funding secured during the 2025 legislative session, $19,454,000 is allocated directly to Bernalillo County while $6,523,444 will go to nonprofit organizations.

Commissioners expressed support for the measure and highlighted its expected benefits for their districts as well as the wider community.

Some specific uses for the appropriations include demolishing an existing building and constructing a child development and family services facility in the South Valley; acquiring rights of way and improving Atrisco Vista Boulevard between Double Eagle Airport and Paseo del Norte Boulevard NW; upgrading facilities at Paradise Hills Community Center; and acquiring land for Phase 1 construction of a new fire station on the Southwest Mesa.
