The Utton Transboundary Resources Center at the School of Law has launched a new podcast titled "Water Matters!" This initiative aims to enhance public education on water, natural resources, and environmental issues, particularly in New Mexico and the Southwest.
"Water Matters!" is hosted by Rin Tara, a staff attorney at the Utton Center, alongside John Fleck, Writer-in-Residence at the center. The podcast features monthly episodes that delve into critical water and natural resource topics relevant to New Mexico and beyond. Each episode includes conversations with guests such as legal experts, community leaders, and water professionals.
The inaugural episode was released in April and featured Diane Agnew from the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority. It focused on the San Juan-Chama Project and local water management strategies.
In the latest episode released on May 2nd, Bidtah Becker, an attorney for the Navajo Nation and alumna of the School of Law, discussed the Northern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Act. She explained its significance and implications for tribal communities and water policy across the Southwest.
New episodes are scheduled for release at the beginning of each month.
