Deb Haaland joined the American Postal Workers Union Local 380 in Albuquerque to protest potential cuts to postal services. Over 150 people gathered outside the Albuquerque Main Post Office, urging the Trump Administration and DOGE to reconsider plans that could result in firing 10,000 postal workers and other service reductions.

“I’m proud to picket alongside workers to defend every New Mexican who relies on the vital services post offices provide. From seniors who get their medications and social security checks in the mail to small businesses that send their goods and invoices to other markets, DOGE and the Trump Administration’s cuts will limit the services New Mexicans rely on, kill good paying union jobs, and increase prices right here in our state,” said Deb Haaland, candidate for New Mexico Governor.

The protest was part of a national movement by postal workers and supporters advocating against privatization and political interference. The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) organized a Day of Action nationwide.

“The American Postal Workers Union and our allies are on a quest to stop the nonsense of privatization of the U.S. Postal Service. This illegal takeover of the people’s Post Office will benefit no one except the billionaires who will systematically dismantle the Post Office. Prices will increase upwards of 120% and service will be degraded to the point of customers not receiving mail for weeks, especially in rural New Mexico. We thank former Secretary Deb Haaland and her campaign for standing with us to stop this hostile takeover of the U.S. Postal Service which affects every household in the country,” said Ken Fajardo, President of APWU Local 380.

Haaland has been an advocate for maintaining essential postal services for New Mexicans throughout her career. She has supported legislation aimed at stabilizing postal operations, opposed service cuts affecting Social Security check delivery during crises like pandemics, and backed funding initiatives for rural post offices as a representative from New Mexico's first congressional district.
