CCIA announces a parent’s guide on explicit books in LCPS

The Coalition of Conservatives in Action (CCIA) has released a parent's guide listing over 95 books in Las Cruces Public Schools that they deem age-inappropriate and explicit. This announcement was made via a press release.

According to the CCIA, the "Parent’s Guide to 95+ Explicit Books in Las Cruces Public Schools: How to Protect Your Children from Porn in NM School Libraries" was presented at the Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) Board meeting on January 21. The guide outlines books alleged to contain graphic sexual content, violence, drug use, and self-harm. It also provides instructions for parents on how to opt their children out using LCPS form IJL-E1S.

"Most parents would never expect schools to be providing this type of explicit content to students. We want to make sure parents know which books are in their children’s schools so they can opt-out their children," said Sarah Smith, leader of CCIA’s Education Action Committee. Smith notes that the goal is to empower parents to protect their kids.

Smith further said at the board meeting, "Protecting children from age-inappropriate, explicit content is not ‘book-banning.’ It’s just common sense." She noted that the LCPS allegedly took no action on this issue and urged school board members to consider it seriously and ensure that schools do not expose children to inappropriate content.

The Coalition of Conservatives in Action describes itself as a non-partisan advocacy organization focused on government accountability and promoting civic engagement. Its mission includes holding elected and appointed officials accountable through citizen participation and civil discourse, with an emphasis on local change. The CCIA operates through four action committees: election integrity, faith outreach, education, and crime and public policy.
