Common Cause New Mexico has launched a statewide voter protection program ahead of Election Day, aiming to support voters as they head to the polls. The initiative includes a bilingual hotline, which the organization describes as the largest of its kind in New Mexico.
“We know voter enthusiasm is high and we want to make sure all voters know their rights and know how to cast their ballot,” said Molly Swank, executive director of Common Cause New Mexico. “That’s why our hotline is staffed with friendly, nonpartisan experts who can help voters navigate the election process on Tuesday. We encourage all voters to add 866-our-vote into their phones so they can call or text if they run into any issues.”
The hotline offers assistance in English (866-OUR-VOTE / 866-687-8683), Spanish (888-VE-Y-VOTA / 888-839-8682), Asian languages (888-API-VOTE / 888-274-8683), and Arabic (844-YALLA-US / 844-925-5287). Staffed by attorneys and legal professionals familiar with state election laws, the service provides live help for questions, concerns, technical issues at polling sites, and counters misinformation.
Voters are reminded that early voting runs through Saturday, November 1, with polling locations open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Same day registration is available during this period for those with valid identification. On Election Day itself—Tuesday, November 4—polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and those still in line when polls close will be allowed to vote.
This effort is part of a national coalition formed after the disputed Bush v. Gore election in 2000; it now includes over one hundred organizations working together on nonpartisan voter assistance programs across the country. In the last presidential election cycle in 2020, more than 46,000 Common Cause volunteers participated nationwide.
