Farmington, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) conducted a public hearing at San Juan College in Farmington on Tuesday. This event allowed community members to express their views on the methane standards proposed earlier this year. The majority of speakers supported the proposed rules, outnumbering opponents by more than two to one.

The proposed standards aim to reduce methane waste from oil and gas operations on public lands. These measures are designed to complement safeguards suggested by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2015.

In response, a coalition of community and environmental groups released statements supporting these efforts.
