Sen. Block on Rep. Anaya's anti-ICE website: 'Stop vilifying people for doing their jobs'

Jay Block, a Senator from New Mexico, said that State Representative Marianna Anaya's actions endangered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. He suggested that opponents should focus on changing laws rather than targeting those enforcing them. The statement was made on the social media platform X.

"I was recently interviewed on KOAT regarding a real crazy lawmaker that put ICE agents lives and others at risk with a stupid stunt," said C Block, New Mexico State Senator from 12th District (R). "She needs to be held accountable if she violated the law. Just stop vilifying people for doing their jobs. You are inciting violence."

On October 31, 2025, KOAT-TV reported from Albuquerque that State Representative Marianna Anaya had launched an interactive website for crowd-reporting ICE activity in New Mexico. In the segment, State Senator Jay C. Block criticized the initiative, describing it as dangerous for ICE personnel and calling for its removal.

According to the ICE statistics portal, its Enforcement and Removal Operations dashboards provide data on arrests, detentions, and removals up to December 31, 2024. This information allows for nationwide trend comparisons, including states like New Mexico.

A local investigation by KOAT revealed that in 2023 New Mexico had more than 1,600 law enforcement officers assaulted. This ranked the state second in the nation per capita behind Alaska, underscoring elevated risks of attacks on officers within the state.

Block is a Republican member of the New Mexico State Senate representing District 12 since January 1, 2025. He previously served on the Sandoval County Commission from 2016 to 2024. His background includes service in the U.S. Air Force and consulting work. His said policy focuses include border security, public safety, and immigration enforcement.
