Community, tribal, and faith leaders gathered in Albuquerque to protest the Interior Department's Royalty Policy Committee meeting. The protest centered on opposition to reduced royalty rates for fossil fuel extraction on public lands and the perceived prioritization of industry interests by the Trump Administration.

During the rally, participants highlighted their concerns by serving coffee, drawing attention to oil and gas companies' leases on public lands that cost less than a cup of coffee. They expressed discontent with what they described as "rock-bottom royalty rates" proposed by the RPC.

The rally also criticized Secretary Zinke's actions, claiming he has overseen significant reductions in public-land protections and revoked measures aimed at reducing methane pollution. Protesters argued that these actions prioritize industry profits over public concerns.

Participants concluded their demonstration by attending the public-comment session of the RPC meeting wearing shirts with "Not An Industry Insider." Although initially allocated 30 minutes, due to high interest from community members, this period was extended by an hour.
