Greg Seeley House District 27 | Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is set to hold the first of three listening sessions aimed at engaging the public in crafting new regulations for methane emissions from oil and gas operations. This initiative comes as part of efforts to address pollution associated with these industries.
Previously, under the Trump administration, regulations limiting methane emissions from the oil and gas sector were rolled back. However, a resolution passed by the Senate in April seeks to reinstate those 2016 protections, with a similar resolution expected to be voted on by the House soon. The current Biden administration now has an opportunity to expand these safeguards further.
A total of 50 New Mexicans have registered to provide testimony during these sessions. These testimonies are accessible through online links provided for each session day.
