A recent decision by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission has paved the way for new investments and job creation in the state, along with providing some of the lowest-cost renewable energy globally. The approved projects include solar energy priced at 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The commission has given the green light to two renewable projects aimed at serving El Paso Electric's customers in New Mexico and Texas. The first project is a 100-megawatt solar installation by Hecate Energy, which will be constructed in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. The second project is the Buena Vista hybrid project, consisting of 100 megawatts of solar power coupled with a 50-megawatt battery system, set to be developed in Otero County.

Both projects are expected to commence operations in the summer of 2022.

Stephanie Dzur from the Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy can be contacted for more information regarding these developments.
