State Senator-Elect Jay Block expressed confidence in Elon Musk over President Joe Biden in response to another lawmaker on X. He made the statement in a December 18 post on the social media platform.
"Biden snaps his fingers, and 13 illegal aliens come in," said Block. "I'll take direction from Elon Musk any day over Biden. He's built great businesses. Biden has destroyed a country."
Block was responding to a post from Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, who said, "Elon Musk snaps his fingers and we shut down the government? It’s unacceptable. We’re in office to serve the people we represent, not unelected billionaires. We need to reach an agreement that puts the American people first and keeps the government open."

While President-elect Donald J. Trump rejected a proposed bill to fund the government as full of giveaways to Democrats, CBS News reports that Musk posted a series of social media posts that stirred outrage toward the bill and supported Republicans who opposed it. Musk threatened primary challenges against legislators who voted for the budget deal, and Trump later did the same, according to CBS. Trump also called for extending the debt ceiling limit before he takes office in January and later suggested eliminating it altogether, as reported by CBS on December 19. Representative Andy Barr told CBS that constituents were "listening to Elon Musk" as his office received numerous calls.
The Associated Press reported on December 19 that the House had rejected Trump's plan to suspend the debt ceiling and fund operations. If they do not pass a continuing resolution, the government will shut down. President-elect Trump announced a new package aimed at keeping the government funded for three months, adding $100.4 billion in disaster assistance, and allowing borrowing through January 20, 2027. The new proposal omitted a pay raise for lawmakers, which angered Musk, and also dropped a land transfer that could have facilitated a new football stadium for the Washington Commanders.
According to his website, Jay Block is a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and former nuclear weapons officer. He became the first Republican to win a seat on the Sandoval County Commission, where he focused on economic development and public safety and was endorsed by both Firefighters' and Sheriff's Deputies' unions.
