In response to the devastating wildfires and subsequent flooding in Southern New Mexico, Chevron has donated $100,000 to aid relief and recovery efforts. The fires, which began in mid-June, destroyed 1,400 structures and consumed over 25,000 acres. Tragically, at least two people lost their lives.
Chevron's donation will be allocated as follows: $75,000 will support the Greatest Need Impact Fund to assist those affected in Lincoln and Otero counties. An additional $25,000 is designated for the Mescalero Apache Tribe.
Beverly Allen, a Chevron public affairs advisor who facilitated the donation process, expressed her motivation: “I started making calls. It was just the right thing to do. It was automatic.” She added that contributing felt gratifying: “We were really wanting to do something to help, along with everybody else.”
Thora Padilla, president of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, acknowledged the importance of Chevron's contribution during these challenging times: “This contribution will directly support the Mescalero Apache Tribe and its members during these challenging times of fires and flooding on the reservation,” Padilla said. “Chevron’s support is invaluable.”
Chevron has a history of aiding communities impacted by natural disasters. In April 2024, it contributed $3 million for flood relief in Kazakhstan. In 2022 alone, it provided $250,000 each for wildfire relief efforts in Boulder County, Colorado and New Mexico. Previously in 2017, Chevron announced a $500,000 donation from its Global Community Fund for California wildfire relief.
